Write an abstract

Writing an effective abstract or executive summary is an important skill which can take practice to perfect. In this step, you'll have the opportunity to write an abstract.

Your abstract could be for a report that you are currently writing or for a project that you have worked on in the past. You could even try writing an abstract for the Charpy Impact Experiment.

Make sure your abstract follows the best practice guidance we have learned about this week:

  • Answer the key questions of 'how', 'why' and 'so what?'
  • Write concisely
  • Use a coherent structure

This exercise is entirely optional.

Assignment Guidelines

You should consider these when writing:

  • Guiding questions: How well has the writer answered the questions 'how', 'why' and 'so what?'
  • Writing concisely: Is the writing concise?
  • The structure: Does the abstract have a coherent structure? Does it have an appropriate number of paragraphs?
