Boardroom Details
|
Learning Outcomes Deliver an engaging presentation to an audience. |
During the week, there are two boardroom presentations. The first is a chance for you to practice your presentation skills in preparation for the final boardroom presentation on Friday, which will be assessed. Details for the boardroom presentations are provided here.
Interim Boardroom (Wednesday)
The interim boardroom will take place in front of an industry mentor, an engineering staff member, and your hub facilitator. They will provide you with feedback on your presentation and advice on how you can improve for the final boardroom presentation on Friday. Your hub facilitator will provide you with a time slot for your group.
- Time: 5-minute presentation, 10 minutes Q&A.
- Content: You will need to cover your work to date and plans for the rest of the project. The industry mentor will not be familiar with your project, the background context, or your work so far, so you should ensure your presentation takes this into account. Your presentation should include:
- An introduction to yourself and your project.
- A brief overview of the context to explain the problem you are trying to solve.
- The conceptual designs you believe can solve the problem.
- The justification for your design selection.
- Any conclusions you have made or insights you have gained during the design process so far.
- Number of slides: There is no fixed requirement for the number of slides. However, given the time constraints, you should aim for around 5-7 slides.
- You are not required to submit your slides.
Final Boardroom (Friday)
The final boardroom will take place in front of an industry mentor, a member of staff from the Faculty of Engineering, your hub facilitator, and all the students in your hub. This presentation will be assessed, and the marks will contribute to your final grade for the group project. Your hub facilitator will provide you with a time slot for your group.
- Time: No longer than 6 minutes for the presentation, 10 minutes for Q&A.
- Content: You will need to cover the entirety of the project, from conception through to operation. The industry mentor may not be the same from earlier in the week and may be unfamilure with the context and your project. You should aim to improve your presentation based on the feedback you received on Wednesday. Your presentation should include:
- An introduction to yourself and your project.
- A description of the problem you are trying to solve.
- Your design solution to solve the problem.
- How your design solution will be created, implemented, and operated.
- The impact of your proposal on the users and wider society.
- Number of slides: There is no fixed requirement for the number of slides. However, given the time constraints, you should aim for around 7-10 slides.
- You are not required to submit your slides.
